Kingspan Century Building Systems achieve extremely high levels of airtightness and airtight buildings require ventilation. Simple Mechanical Ventilation systems are ineffective in recovering the heat lost in their exhausted air, therefore energy efficient buildings require Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR) .

The Kingspan Air Recovery 4 is a high efficiency heat recovery unit. It has a sophisticated counter-flow heat exchanger which can recover up to 91% of the heat from the discharge air. This recovered heat is used to pre-heat the fresh air being brought in from outside. The heat exchanger does not mix the fresh incoming air with the exhaust air, but simply exchanges heat to reduce the building heating requirement. This  ensures the maintenance  of a stable internal temperature & humidity levels and as the supply air is filtered, removing dust and pollen, also  provides a superior indoor air quality.

Kingspan Air Recovery Unit

The heat recovery unit also has a Summer bypass valve integrated into the unit, which diverts the air supply completely around the heat exchanger. This means the exit air from the dwelling does not heat the fresh air. Especially during summer nights this bypass valve is desirable because the outside temperature is often lower than the temperature inside.

The operational efficiency of the Kingspan Air Recovery 4 has been certified by the BRE and is available for download on the SAP Appendix Q  database (www.sap-appendixq.org.uk).
