TEK Building System

The TEK® Building System comprises Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs) connected with a unique jointing system for walls, roofs and Open Web or I-Joist or intermediate floors.

Structural Insulated Panel (SIP) technology is the next generation of timber based construction. TEK Structural Insulated Panels are made up of two OSB/3 (Oriented Strand Board) boards with a zero Ozone Depletion Potential (zero ODP) rigid urethane insulation core. The OSB/3 boards are not bonded to the insulation in a secondary process, they are autohesively bonded to the rigid urethane insulation core during manufacture resulting in superior adhesive strength to the bond between the core and the OSB/3 boards; a process which leads to premium structural properties.

With environmental sustainability at its core  advantages of the Kingspan TEK® Building System  include :

  • Exceptional thermal performance with Whole wall and roof  U-values of 0.21 - 0.10 W/m2.K
  • Highly airtight construction (no membranes or tape required) achieving air permeability's less than (1 m3/hour/m2 at 50 Pa).
  • Panels are PEFC Chain of Custody certified
  • 2008 BRE Green Guide A+ or A Summary Rated roof and wall elements available.
  • Manufactured with a blowing agent that has zero Ozone Depletion Potential (ODP) and low Global Warming Potential (GWP).
  • Fast, Cost Effective & Predictable
  • High dimensional accuracy & zero shrinkage
  • Accommodation of all types of external facades
  • Minimal site waste

The proprietary jointing system used with the Kingspan TEK® Building System creates a very air-tight structure with little opportunity for air leakage.

U-value calculations for a conventional timber framed house have to take into account, the effects of cold bridging. Kingspan TEK® Building System SIP technology, means the insulation layer is not interrupted by repeating studwork, as in a conventional timber frame, Therefore there is less cold bridging and a better thermal performance. This results in a system that only has 4% thermal bridging from timber elements for a typical domestic building wall (up to 15% or more with a traditional timber frame wall) and 1% thermal bridging from timber elements for a typical domestic building roof (6% in a typical domestic roof with insulation between joists or rafters).
